Since Monday, we noticed that Nachos wasn’t eating and drinking well and was acting quite lethargic.
He refused to eat his first meal and his stomach was making weird, squishy sounds. He only ate when the hubby got back from a job interview in the evening. We didn’t think anything of it though and thought that he only got stressed with the change of schedule since the hubby is normally home the whole day.
On Tuesday, he ate his 2 meals (lunch and dinner) though he only ate small portions of his food. He normally eats EVERYTHING off his dish. His stomach was still making weird sounds.
Yesterday, he refused to eat again and I was getting worried that he might have worms. So I asked Artie to bring Nachos to the vet to see if he needed deworming. I wanted to get rid of those worms as early as possible!
The nearest vet from our home is Animal House, Alabang branch. It’s a 5 minute travel by car. Very convenient if we get into any doggie emergency.
I am very impressed with the service of Animal House, Alabang. They are very thorough with their diagnosis and the doctors are knowledgeable and nice.
Some people my find it unnecessary, but I really like it that the first thing they do to your dog is give it a blood check and poop check. And if needed, they would also request to give your dog an x-ray if they didn’t find anything conclusive in the previous tests.
I would rather have that, than go to a vet who would poke and prod my pet and say something like, “Oh, it LOOKS like he has this and that disease, blah blah blah.” Then end up making a mis-diagnosis which might end up killing my pet.
When Nachos got to the vet, he was given a CBC and a poop/intestinal test. Nothing was found (thank goodness, no worms!) so the vet suggested giving him an x-ray just in case Nachos ate a foreign object which could the cause of his stomach discomfort.
So yes, Nachos had a bad case of gas, haha! In other words, “doggie kabag”, LOL.
The vet has officially proclaimed Nachos a senior citizen (turning 7 this year) so he might be having a hard time digesting already. Poor
old man puppy!
So far, he’s reacting pretty well to the meds.
He spent the whole day sleeping but when we got back from our dinner last night, he was already up and about, and excitedly greeted us by waggiing his tail and energetically running around.
His appetite is back, too! The doctor suggested we feed him chicken liver when he’s on his picky days since chicken liver is supposed to palatable and irresistible to dogs. True enough, he gobbled up the shredded chicken liver I gave him for midnight snack :)
Happy to have the little boy up and running about again!
