Let me be honest.
I’m not the most patriotic person around. I have always dreamed of living in another country.
I am envious of other countries’ efficient public transportation. I envy how convenient it is to file taxes and claim government documents in other countries.
I dislike how everything is unorganized here in the Philippines.
I abhor the traffic and how a 10 minute distance can into a two-hour travel time. I hate driving around the metro and seeing people beg in streets, and shanties and garbage ruining the scenic view of the city.
I absolutely despise how the Philippine Customs extort money from me every single time I receive a shipment from abroad.
In short, I have very little love for our government.
But deep inside, I still have hopes for the Philippines. I still have hopes that one day, we will have a government and leaders who actually care about the country and its people.
This is a question we should all be asking the candidates who are running for office in this coming May 2013 election.
Let’s all be vigilant in asking them what their future plans are if they are voted into office. Try to see whether these candidates have a genuine interest in improving our country, or if they’re just interested in filling up their own pockets.
Let’s challenge them all with this question.
“KANDIDATO, ANONG PLANO MO?”
I urge everyone to join in on this campaign. With the power of today’s social media, I believe we can make difference.
We now have the channels to voice out our opinions. Even the smallest of voices now have the chance to be heard.
By simply taking photos of unaddressed issues by our government (i.e. traffic, poverty, mangongotong, garbage, smoke belching, etc) let’s create an awareness.
At the end of the campaign which is on the 12th of May 2013, all the best photos will be collated and a print ad will be addressed to our leaders.
Hopefully, this will show our future leaders that we, the Filipinos, are fully aware of our country’s issues and that we have dreams of a better Philippines.
Let’s take a pause from posting selfies or our lunches and instead, upload photos and create a picture of the issues that needs to be addressed by our future leaders.
Let’s do this! :)
