Hey geeks, how’s everyone? How was your Holy Week?
I spent Holy Week in Hong Kong with Artie and my in-laws and I’m pretty excited to share with all of you my photos from our trip!
(I’m still having a Hong Kong hang over, actually!)
Anyway, less chitchat and let’s start with my travel diary blog post, shall we?
Just a little warning, this post is going to be photo heavy!
April 16, 2014 – Day 1 – Arrival
We booked PAL for our flights going to Hong Kong. We left at 3PM and arrived at 5PM at the Hong Kong International Airport.
Langham Place Hotel in Mong Kok
After an hour, we finally arrived at our hotel in Mong Kok – Langham Place Hotel.
We were warmly greeted by the staff. They helped us with our luggages and we were escorted to the main lobby for check-in.
After our check-in, up to our rooms we go…
The room was okay, though quite small. Even so, it was clean and the airconditioner was working perfectly, so that was good. It also included the usual amenities like laundry bags, mini fridge and security safe.
However, I found that room was lacking in USB sockets. In this day and age, it’s pretty standard to have USB sockets in a hotel. I really would have preferred if they had more USB sockets and they should definitely provide more than 1 plug adapter per room.
(Easily remedied by requesting for more plug adapters.)
We also had free WiFi which was fast so I was very happy.
(2oombs in 1 minute! *tears of joy*)
After freshening up, we went downstairs to hunt for a place to have dinner as we were ravenously hungry!
The location of Langham Place Hotel is fantastic.
When we were booking the hotel, we were a bit worried that the location would be bad.
From our previous travels to Hong Kong, what comes to mind when you say Mong Kok is a busy area with small streets crowded with people. We were also worried that it might be unsafe at night. We were worried about pick pockets and mugging.
(I was already imagining a Divisoria-ish place in my mind and I honestly would NOT like to stay in that kind of area.)
But once we got there, all our qualms disappeared into thin air.
If you’re not into the night market scene and would prefer shopping and eating in malls, Langham Place Hotel is still the perfect hotel as it is connected to the Langham Place Mall.
With our bellies full and our eyes pleased with the scenery, we finally went to bed.
The next day…
We started our day with our breakfast buffet at The Place.
Breakfast is important to me and I never skip it. I really need to eat first thing in the morning, else I’ll feel weak and sick.
Literally, I will wake up, wash my face and brush my teeth, put on some decent clothes and troop to wherever breakfast is, then go back up and dress up for the day.
That’s my routine when we’re out traveling.
That goes without saying our hotel bookings should always have breakfast. I do not want to be bothered about where to get breakfast so early in the morning.
I’m happy to say that the breakfast buffet at The Place of Langham Place Hotel did not disappoint me.
Excellent service until the very end!
As you can tell from my photos, Langham Place Hotel Mong Kok is a fantastic hotel to stay at when in Hong Kong and is definitely deserving of its 94% rating (ranked #9 of 581 hotels) in TripAdvisor and 8.6 score in Agoda.
Even when we were already checked-out, thousands of miles away from the hotel and home in the Philippines, they were still providing us with excellent service.
On our second to the last day in Hong Kong, Artie unfortunately lost his phone in a taxi.
We thought we would never see it again but because of sheer luck, Apple’s Find my iPhone feature and the impressive service of the Langham Place Hotel staff, we were able to get his phone back.
The day Artie lost his phone, we were assisted by Jackel Yip. We were able to get the cab’s plate number via the hotel’s CCTV. He assisted us in giving out notice to Hong Kong’s taxi drivers about the lost phone and should the phone be found, a reward awaits them if it was returned to Langham Place Hotel.
However, despite Jackel’s efforts, we left Hong Kong without any news about the phone so we thought that was it.
But the day after we got back to the Philippines, I received this text.
We immediately called Langham Place Hotel and explained the situation. This time around, we were assisted by Ivan Chung. We gave Ivan the contact number of the person who texted us (Mr. Lee) and he was the one who coordinated with Mr. Lee on the return of the phone to the hotel.
When the phone was returned, Ivan coordinated with us so that our friend, Carine, who was luckily still in Hong Kong, could pass by for the phone and bring it home here in the Philippines.
If that’s not awesome service, then I don’t know what is.
Lesson learned: Activate your iPhone’s Find my iPhone feature!
