Hello, Rockmelt.

There was this one time in band camp when my Mozilla Firefox kept on crashing on me that I decided to look for another browser alternative.

I decided to use Chrome for a while and I did enjoy using it, as it was very light on my system and the pages load pretty fast, too. Unfortunately, Chrome was fairly new then so it had a few annoying bugs with WordPress which led me back to my browser search. Beside, I’m also lazy to import all my bookmarks and reload all my passwords in all my saved sites. Lazy me.

People on Philmug were suggesting this browser called Rockmelt and I got intrigued since they say it’s a good browser if you’re into social media, specifically Facebook and Twitter.

And boy, do I like Facebook and Twitter, haha 🙂 So here I am trying out Rockmelt.

But first thing you have to know, Rockmelt is only available for Mac. Sorry, Windows users.

First some screenies.

When you log in to Facebook, you’ll see who’s online in Facebook chat on the left side bar. You can update your FB status by clicking your avatar.

Rockmelt also has the Facebook Newsfeed built in.

And also a window for your Facebook notifications.

To chat with your Facebook friends, just click their avatar.

You can also update your Twitter with Rockmelt but when I tried it out, it didn’t work. Didn’t get posted on my Twitter.

You can also share interesting sites on Facebook and/or Twitter with Rockmelt

Here I am trying to compare the performance of Rockmelt and Firefox on my system. Both on idle state.

My Impression.

If you’re the type who likes to integrate things or you like “all-in-one” gadgets, you might like Rockmelt. But I’m a purist at heart so for now I’m good with my ‘TweetDeck, Facebook and Plurk on Firefox’ set up.

I might consider using Rockmelt again if there’s an option that you don’t need to log in Facebook but that would totally defeat the purpose of the browser, haha. But I do like Rockmelt’s light, minimalistic design and fast browsing.

  1. Seems to be a perfectly capable browser. But having more than 3 on my Mac (Firefox, Chrome and Safari) is already too much, haha!
