Hello, iPad 2.

The iPad 2 was announced last night and in a nutshell, here are the improvements done:

  • Lighter, sleeker design.
  • Now available in white. (I like white, but meh, still not buying)
  • Now with faster dual core A5 chip. (Though you have to think whether it will really be maximized…)
  • Has two cameras now so you can Facetime or video chat.
  • iPad Smart Cover.

Well, I’m still NOT drooling over an iPad. I’m still quite content with my iPod Touch. The only Apple product I’m really lusting over right now is an iMac (or maybe an MBP upgrade, yum Core i7).

I guess I’m not really a tablet person. I would rather invest in a netbook if I’m worried about portability. If all I want to do is check email on the go, or Facebook, I have my iPod Touch for that. If I want an e-book reader, I’d get a kindle. Though reading graphic novels and comics would would be a treat on the iPad.

However, I got more excited and impressed with the Smart Cover. I like how it works as a stand, too.

I won’t be surprised if other tablets come up with the same thing.

iPad 2 will start shipping March 11 with a starting price of $499.
