Toner Talk: Dickinson’s Witch Hazel

Before I officially replace my current toner which has been working for me for years, I believe it deserves a post. (I’m still using it! Still my HG Toner.)

For the past 5 years, I’ve been religiously using Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel as my toner. Definitely my HG. Washing my face never feels completely clean if I don’t use it.

I’ve tried other toners before such as Clinique (also works for me but I find it pretty expensive because I’m a cheapskate), Nieva Visage Refreshing Toner (made my skin itchy) and Mary Kay (also works for me, but hard to find and slightly pricey, too).

The only toner that really produced results for me is Dickinson’s Witch Hazel.

I came across this brand when I was still active in GirlTalk. People were raving about it. They were saying that every time they go to the store to buy it, it was always out of stock because it was so in demand! I got so intrigued that I had to try it out for myself.

It definitely does what a toner should do. Cleans your face of the dirt and oil that your facial wash wasn’t able to and tones your face, making your pores more refined. And for some reason it brightens (not lighten) up my face even if it doesn’t have any whitening agents.

Uses natural witch hazel extract used in most toners, and has 14% natural alcohol

What I didn’t like at first though was the smell. It took some time getting used to. I keep telling people it smells like tequila! And boy, do I hate the smell of tequila. (Makes me remember the nights that I couldn’t remember, hehe) But eventually I got used to it.

And ever since, I’ve been using Dickinson’s Witch Hazel toner. Until now. I *might* replace it soon with another brand. I started using the new brand today but I’ll give it a week to see if it’s good enough to replace Dickinson’s. (This toner is still the best! I went back to it, after a month of using another product.)

If you’re interested in trying Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel, it is available in any Healthy Option branch. Remember to get the YELLOW variant because the blue one is used mainly as an antiseptic. 🙂

The big 475mL bottle costs around P300. Definitely affordable and will last you forever! 😛

Let me know if it works for you!

  1. Have you tried Celeteque’s toner with witch hazel? I wonder how that compares with this.

  2. Never tried Celeteque. The Celeteque moisturizer didn’t agree with me so I didn’t pursue the brand even though it’s supposed to be one of the most gentle brands around (water-based, etc).

And I was already happy with Dickinson’s 🙂 Their available in small bottles, too if you want to try it out! 🙂

  3. Hmm, matry nga. I’m always on the lookout for a good toner, I really can’t feel the diff naman whether I use them or not kasi. I want a toner that will really make me feel like toning is important, haha.

  4. Haha! 🙂 I notice the difference in my pores when I forget to tone, and sometimes I get pimples too!

The only reason why I thought of changing my toner was parang nag dr-dry pa rin face ko with Dickinson’s but not as much as the other toners I’ve used 🙂 My face is super dry kasi! 😛

  11. Hi, I just bought this a week ago…I have a acne prone skin, combination of oily and dry skin…i always have at least 3-5 cystic acne every month and small pimples all over..I almost tried everything like BP, had consulted a derma and didnt work, tea tree oil, retinoic acid, pimple toner from lets face it, all didnt work. this toner worked like charm and its only a week. i stopped using retinoic acid and tried this one. I just wash my face using clean and clear acne cleanser and this toner. my face is a lot better now. My cystic acne begun to heal. still have small pimples. it brigtens my face too..I’ll keep using it and hopefully it’ll help to remove my pimples..thanks

  13. I so love this toner. I’ve been using it for more than 6 months now. I used to have major breakouts because of hormonal imbalance. I use this twice a day and it works wonders. My skin cleared and I don’t experience major breakouts anymore. I usually wash my face, put on the toner and massage egyptian magic cream on my face. My reddish scars are less visible. I will definitely recommend this product! Two thumbs up!

  14. i’m using Celeteque’s Alcohol-free toner for 2 weeks now, i still can’t see/feel the effect it promised. Will switch to Dickinson’s after i finished the bottle.
