Geek Girl Review: Hisense Mono Headset Mini HB200M

If you haven’t seen my ‘teaser’ on the Hisense Mono Headset Mini HB200M yet, here it is! (It’s my first vlog, so, yay to me!)

The UnBoxing

This itty-bitty gadget amusingly comes in a box that’s a bit oversized, hehe.

Price is now only P1,450!

The HB200M Mono Headset with the magnetic clip that turns it into a pendant (which you will see how, in a bit)

USB charging cable and USB AC charger, User Manual, Flexible ear hook, 3 earbud sizes (S/M/L), 1 in-ear bud and Necklace

The Looks

Size comparison

With the flexible ear hook which I attached wrong, haha 😉 Should be perpendicular to the unit.

Using the magnetic clip to turn it into a pendant. The magnet is not that strong though, so it’s not really advised to use this during strenuous activities. For a more fashionable look, you can use other necklaces 🙂

Tech Specs

  • Lightweight, only 7.5 grams
  • Bluetooth version 2.1, compatible with other Bluetooth devices with Bluetooth v1.1 or higher
  • Multipoint connection, can be paired up to 2 devices at the same time.
  • Talk time of 5.5 hours
  • Standby time of 150 hours

Comes in colors Silver, Champagne, Red, Green and White.

Comfort

With how light the Hisense Mono Headset Mini HB200M is, you barely notice that it’s there. And with the extra earbud sizes that comes with it, you can make sure that you’re using the correct size of earbud that will be comfortable for your ear even if you wear it, let’s say, the whole day.

You can also use the Bluetooth Headset on any ear you’re more at ease with.

Ease of Use
Pairing up. This is the most important thing to consider when buying a Bluetooth Headset. If the pairing up process of a Bluetooth headset is giving you a headache, best to just throw away that headset.

Fortunately, the Hisense Mono Headset Mini HB200M is ridiculously easy to pair with any Bluetooth device.

I was able to easily pair it with the following devices:

  • My HTC Chacha
  • My 4th Gen iPod Touch
  • My 2007 15 inch Mac Book Pro
  • The hubby’s work phone, a Blackberry Curve 8900

The controls are very straight-forward as well, with one button doing everything from answering and rejecting calls, and pairing up with other devices.

To adjust the volume however, you will need to use the controls on your mobile phone or other Bluetooth-enabled device.

The Sound
To quote the hubby who helped me with testing the headset using his mobile phone:

“It sounds like you’re on speaker phone. I can hear you clearly but I know that the earpiece or your phone is far from you.”

From the my end, the call had a hallow but clear quality.

I also used the Hisense Mono Headset Mini HB200M during a conference call on Skype.

I ended up using the built-in speakers of my laptop, rather than using the headset as an audio device. I don’t know why, but the Skype call had a fuzzy sound quality compared to the mobile phone call.

My colleagues didn’t say anything about the quality of my volume though, so I’m guessing it’s a good device to use as a mic.

With that said, the Hisense Mono Headset Mini HB200M is better used for hands-free calls using a mobile phone, rather internet calls, but can be used as a decent wireless mic.

Geek Girl’s Verdict
Hisense Mono Headset Mini HB200M is a no non-sense headset. It’s simple yet fashionable, and it’s straight to the point.

Would I buy it?

If I were a first time Bluetooth Headset user who simply wants:

  • to be able to answer calls hands-free, not caring too much about sound clarity
  • a Bluetooth headset that is small, discrete and not dorky looking

Then yes, I would buy it.

But if you’re looking for a more feature-packed Bluetooth Headset, then this is not for you.

For the price of P1,950 P1,450 (less than $40), it’s a decent and affordable Bluetooth headset, as high end brands like Plantronics start at minimum $100.
