App of the Day: Use WhatsApp and Send Local and International SMS for FREE!

If you:

  • own an Android phone, an iPhone or a BlackBerry (some Nokia phones are also supported);
  • are always connected via 3G or WiFi; and
  • looooooooooooove to send SMS and/or chat with your friends

I would definitely recommend that you get the app, WhatsApp.

I just recently discovered the joy of WhatsApp (though I know the app has been around for some time now) and gosh, it’s addicting!

WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform smartphone messenger currently available for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Nokia phones. The application utilizes push notifications to instantly get messages from friends, colleagues and family. Switch from SMS to exchange messages, pictures, audio notes and video messages with WhatsApp users at no cost.

It’s a similar app to Viber, except that WhatsApp is more for messages, while Viber is more for calls.

It’s easy to manage your contacts with WhatsApp. The app automatically detects all your friends who have the app installed in their device and adds them to your WhatsApp contact list.

The WhatsApp feature I love the most is the Group Chat!

Aside from the one on one chat with a specific person, you can make different ‘chat rooms’ for each of your cliques or groups. I currently have 2: GimmickAddicts and GradBarkada.

You can also share pictures, videos and locations instantly with your friends!

If someone asks, “Where the party?!”, just send a location! 🙂

Easily share photos!

And contacts, too! 🙂

It’s a great way to keep in touch with your friends, locally and internationally, while you’re on the go. It’s also a great app for people who rarely checks their email, or don’t have Facebook accounts.

If you’re on an unlimited data plan and/or have access to a WiFi hotspot all the time, you can send text, videos, audios, links and check-ins with your friends, whole day, every day… or as long as you have battery charge.
