5 Reasons Why You Should Get Your iPads from Smart

Hi geeks!

For a change, I went out of my cave, braved the Manila Friday traffic and attended the press and blogger briefing for the introduction of the 4th generation iPad and the iPad Mini from Smart yesterday at the Jump Center, Megamall.

Smart-LTE-iPad-01I could say that all that effort was worth it 🙂

I’ve been thinking of getting an iPad Mini and was trying to decide between getting the Wifi only model or the Wifi + cellular model. Going to this event helped me make the decision!

I am definitely going for an iPad Mini Wifi + cellular so I can experience Smart LTE on it!

Here are some takeaways from the briefing and reasons WHY you should definitely get your iPads or iPad Minis from Smart on their iPad Plans.

1. Value for money and a better deal

You will not get a better deal anywhere else. I’m telling you right now, getting your iPads from Smart will be more bang for your bucks. You can get a 16GB iPad Mini Wifi + cellular model for as low as P13,900+. This is the same price of an iPad Mini Wifi only model when you buy them from authorized resellers.

16GB iPad Mini Wifi + cellular models costs around P19,000 – P21,000 in the market. You’re basically getting a huge discount of around P6,000-P8,000 when you buy from Smart!

2.  Minimal requirements

Some people are allergic to the idea of signing up for a post paid line for the reason that they don’t want to go through the hassle of coming up with documents. But when applying for Smart’s iPad Plan you only need the following:

  • Valid IDs
  • Proof of income
  • Proof of address/billing
  • Fully accomplished application form

If you’re an existing Smart subscriber already, all you need is one (1) valid ID!

3. Free accessories and discounts up to 20% off on accessories

When you get your iPads from Smart, you’ll get a FREE neoprene sleeve and you can avail up to 20% discounts on accessories from different stores! This is a pretty good deal as Apple accessories can be quite expensive!

4. A better network

I’m not pulling your leg and neither am I saying this just to suck up to Smart. I’m saying this because it’s definitely true. I’ve switched to Smart just recently last year, and I definitely know I made the right choice. Here are the reasons why:

  • The 3G/LTE connection is more stable. The hubby has to always ask me to share my hotspot because his 3G on the other network is always intermittent. *smirk*
  • Wherever I go, I have data. Ever since I switched to Smart, I’ve NEVER ever had to ask for Wifi passwords from establishments ever again.
  • I never get those text spams anymore, thank the geek gods.
  • I rarely get dropped calls and it’s easier for me to make calls.
  • I never had to call Smart CS because, well, I haven’t had any problems so far.

Yep, I’m definitely happy I made the switch.

5. Unlimited LTE for 24 months!

Smart offers two (2) plans for iPads: Plan 999 and 499. On both plans, you will have unlimited LTE for 24 months!

Smart-LTE-iPad-03

“Unlimited” meaning you can download data and stream as many movies as you want! You can download 100GB worth of data if you want! 🙂

However, on plan 499 you have a time cap of 65 hours. Once you’ve consumed 65 hours, you’ll be charged extra accordingly. But don’t worry because you’ll be protected with the Anti-Bill Shock to make sure your bill won’t give you a heart attack.

Still not convinced?

Watch this video to see how Smart LTE performs on an iPad. They connected their iPad to a Samsung TV. Pretty cool.

For your reference, here’s the speed test I did while I was at Jump Center.

  1. I’d like to inform you that Smart implemented a “Fair Use Policy” which effectively turns your Unlimited Internet into a capped one, after achieving 1.5GB of Data Usage for 1 month, your speed will be throttled. =/

  2. Are you sure that you only need 1 valid ID if you are an existing Smart Subscriber?

  3. I read your blog but sad to say I don’t feel those things you listed. While on smart I have 60% drop calls, 20%-25% receiving calls that never even reach my phone to just ring once but on the caller side it is ringing. Once I get lucky to connect, 30-75% if the calls are choppy. This is in Makati including Ayala, Taguig including global city but excluding Mckinley since I never visit that place and this also applies to almost all the places where I have been. The globe network on the other hand have 2-5% drop calls and a stable 3G standby signal for call and text. Never have any issues on exception with calls crossing to Smart network where the person I am calling can’t hear me.

The stable connection you boast is really 0.03mbps on me while in comparing the mobile connection I get with globe on the bundle with it’s unlitext is 0.99mbps. I tried LTE and it only feeds me GSM quality signal unlike the LTE demo device I got from globe where I can get a minimal speed of 6mbps. I was planning to get the LTE device from Globe not from Smart.

I am saying this reply in behalf of what I experience and also based from feed backs from my friends and coworkers.

PS. Globe allows me to call inside an elevator while Smart’s signal already dies out standing near such device.

Hi Paulcy, that’s unfortunate to know that your experience with Smart is not so good 😦 I stay in the Alabang area and so far my connection is always better than Globe here. And whenever I go to Makati, Smart has always better signal as well. 🙂

hi Andrie, yup! A valid ID is enough if you’re an existing postpaid subscriber 🙂

Hi G-, thanks for the info! 🙂

  7. Kinausap ko ung customer support na kulang ang valid ID daw po need pa rin financial documents kahit anong mangyari kahit existing subscriber ka parin daw.

  8. @Lia Espina Lopez I never frequent on Alabang with smart call and text service turned on, I was already pissed off and turn it off.

There are hot spots area in Ayala with good signal for smart but you have limited areas to go, on a lot of areas the signal fluctuates on exception if you are near the smart Tower.

  9. @Andrie I have been on that situation when the services of Smart is still good and they really upgrade. The promo says only 1 valid ID was required and I avail of the promo however the person next to me was rejected, he only shows an ID and proof of billing with his smart call and phone services (which also serves as proof that he is an active subscriber). No further reply was given by the representative when we ask why my application was approved while the next person was denied when I only give an ID and the next guy gives more documents. Must be some kind of filtering..

  10. We did not visit the Smart wireless center as of now because over the phone the agent said they need financial documents and that having a valid ID is not enough to apply for a iPad Plan 499 with Device 24 months amortezation…. We have a Smart Postpaid plan 1200 and Smart Bro Plan over their side and it’s quite discouraging to hear that even a existing subscriber is not enough. One time I asked how much for the Bank Certificate Required for the Galaxy Note 10.1 with Pocket Wifi and they need 90k pesos bank deposit for it. Makes me feel that they don’t trust us even though we’ve been a subscriber for 2-3 years already

Hi Andrie, please send me an email at geekgirlmanila@gmail.com with your issues and maybe I can forward it to someone who can assist you with it 🙂 Thanks!

  12. @G, the cap is not really 15GB, the value is confidential and even if they claim it was system generated.. everything is manual. I even need to call them and complain when my connection was not restored at May 2, 2013. They rushed and viola, trashed my canopy configuration. Now they once again trashed my canopy configuration. I am suing Smart for this.

  13. @Lia Espina Lopez E-Mailed you now hopefully my family could apply for that iPad Plan with 24 months amortization with just a valid ID because we’re already a existing Smart Subscriber.

  14. @Andrie good luck, don’t know why smart have double standards on their promos.

Hi Andrie, forwarded your mail. Hope you get some feedback soon 🙂 You can also try getting in touch with Smart on their Twitter (@SmartCares)

  16. i applied last SUNDAY and everything went smothly until the last part they verified that i have multiple accounts already and my application will be approved by SMART’s head office. quite disappointed after all the accounts i have still i cant have to get the ipad asap. well this clearly shows who values more their postpaid clients which is GLOBE.

  17. There are new fliers for ipad retina/ipad mini for lte plan. At the bottom there is a small text that the unlimited lte is only until june 30,2013. Will try to ask smart regarding this matter. Were you not told that lte will only be a promo?

  18. I tried to subscribed to their 499 plan for iPad about a month ago and already have all documents necessary but I found out that you can only subscribe if you have a basic of 50k and they asked me if I have a credit card–I don’t and don’t want to have one. I’m not sure if this is a standard that only I am not aware of or this is really something new.

Sorry, I know the last reply was about a month ago and the post was 2 months ago, I just want know more about this.

  19. I applied last July 14, 2013 for an I-Pad Smart LTE 24 months amortization plan and they said it was approved but till now there are still no feedback when to get the unit. Why does it takes so long? Almost 3 weeks already?

  20. Calling loyalty hotline is totally useless especially from globe. I realized its much easier to get a unit if you walk in.
Of course assuming the store has stock. 🙂 Choose a less “popular” outlet, go on a weekday… Got a S4 outright from globe store in sm aura when it first opened and got ipad mini from smart in sm centerpoint. I’m a first time smart subscriber and i was surprised how easy it was to apply bec I wasn’t asked for a single proof of billing.

And yes smart LTE out performs globe LTE almost everywhere I go within the metro.

  21. Is credit card a requirement?

  22. Not a requirement but will make your application easier.

  23. hi, I am Titus!

i would like to ask if what are the requirements Ipad mini 4 in Smart Bro plan 1299, and I would like to ask do I have to pay the cash-out ,1500? or should I pay them both? Which is equivalent to 2799.
