Ladies and ladies!
(Okay, maybe the gentlemen, too, who are looking to get one of these amazing, astonishing, spectacular — I could just go on and on about how great this product is!– beauty invention for their significant other…)
Behold! The MOTHER of all hair curlers!
I swear, your woman will love you FOREVER if you get her a BaByliss Miracurl!
I’ve been lusting over this beauty gadget ever since I saw it online last year. However, it was only available in UK and in the US at that time. I was desperate enough to buy it from Amazon.com and have it shipped all the way here using My Shopping Box.
Unfortunately, appliances from the US use 110 volt outlets and I find it a nuisance that I will need to buy and use a transformer just to curl my hair.
Another option was to buy in UK since UK, like the Philippines, use 220 volt outlets. The problem was, I had no experience buying stuff from online UK shops and I wasn’t too hot on purchasing a big ticket item from unsure websites.
So I waited and waited until FINALLY the BaByliss MiraCurl reached Asian shores!

We literally hunted down all the shops that was listed in the BaByliss Pro MiraCurl Office website and I finally found one in SOGO in Causeway Bay for HK$1,670 (more or less P10,020).
I know, I know, it’s an expensive gadget. It really is.
When we bought it in Hong Kong, I had mixed feelings! I was happy to finally have bought one, but at the same time, I had this weird queasy feeling in my stomach. I knew and I felt that my purchase was just too excessive and unnecessary.
I felt… guilty. I guess you could say it was shopper’s remorse.
But once I’ve tried the MiraCurl when we got back home, all the remorse flew out of the window and here I am an extremely happy geek with my BaByliss MiraCurl!
Best purchase EVER!
BaByliss MiraCurl Demo
The BaByliss MiraCurl is ridiculously easy to use that even a curling iron newbie can use it!
(Trust me, when it comes to hair, I’m totally clueless. I’ve never used a curling iron before but curling my hair with the BaByliss MiraCurl is a cinch!)
All you have to do is:
- Set the controls: curl direction (right, left, alternate), heat temperature ( 3 settings — 190C, 210C and 230C), and timer (8 seconds, 10 seconds and 12 seconds).
- Section your hair. If you have thin hair, you can probably get away with a 2 inch section. If you have thicker hair, stick to a 1 inch per section.
- Place the section of hair in the barrel.
- Close the barrel, feel your hair getting sucked in, wait for the quick consecutive beeps and release!
- Voila, curls!
See, easy as 1-2-3 and no burns! 🙂
Authentic vs Fake BaByliss MiraCurl
Early in the year, my friend spotted a BaByliss Perfect Curler (MiraCurl’s UK name) in a mall in Davao for only P3,500. (est. $80)
She immediately told me about it and asked me if I wanted one. She was willing buy it for me and have it shipped to Manila. She actually bought one for herself, too!
At first, I was at the fence since I couldn’t believe the price.
From my extensive research, the price of a BaByliss MiraCurl is atleast $200.
There are cheaper ones out there that costs $99 but they are of a different brand like the ConAir Infinit Pro.
(I really wanted the BaByliss MiraCurl as it had an extra setting I was looking for.)
I really thought and thought about whether I should get the one from Davao. I had a feeling it wasn’t authentic.
(Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a brand snob, but I really believe that buying authentic items is equal to quality. You get what you pay for.)
My friend said it could have been smuggled items that’s why they were cheap.
I thought really hard and eventually I just said to myself, “What the hell, at least I get to try it out and see if I really like the item. If the product is as good as the reviews, then I’ll purchase an authentic one on our Hong Kong Trip.”… and so I did!
Now, let me tell you, there really IS a big difference (aside from the obvious discrepancy in price…) between an authentic BaByliss MiraCurl and a fake one.
First, let me show you the physical differences.

Now this is an obvious difference. The authentic one has the product specification embedded on the handle, while the fake one is printed on the barrel. The authentic one also has a warning printed on the curling head while the fake one has none.

The authentic one has the warning label printed on the lower half, while the fake one has it on the upper half, pasted on a sticker. The authentic one also has a shinier heating rod.

This is an obvious difference but hard to spot. The authentic one has black screws while the fake one uses silver screws.

The authentic one is written in a slightly bigger but more fine font while the fake one has a smaller font. The buttons of the authentic ones feel more secure while the buttons of the fake ones feel more loose.
There were also some differences in the box that the curlers came in but unfortunately I threw away the box of the fake one so I couldn’t spot the difference anymore.
Inside the box though, the curlers were wrapped differently – the authentic one was wrapped in a sealed plastic while the fake one was wrapped in a plastic that was taped.
The authentic one also comes with a heating rod cleaner while the the fake one does not.

I can’t afford an authentic BaByliss. Could I just make do with the fake one?
Truth be told, both gadgets can do the same thing – curl your hair easily.
But the authentic one does everything so much better.
The authentic one…
- … heats up much faster.
- … curls better and the heat feels more regulated so I am confident that my hair won’t burn.
- … does NOT snag your hair. The authentic one has a safety feature where the curler stops sucking in hair when there’s a snag. The fake one does NOT have that feature. I found my hair being caught in the fake one one too many times.
- … does not emit a burning plastick-y smell. The fake one does and this was the ultimate reason why I decided to invest in the authentic one. I am deathly afraid of fire and burning so every time I curled my hair with the fake one, I was so paranoid that it would just burst into flames or explode! I would actually turn off the fake MiraCurl in mid-curling to make it ‘rest’. With the authentic one, I could curl continuously and I was confident that it wouldn’t turn into a fire hazard.
The fake one… well, it just curls your hair more conveniently than your regular curling iron.
So, if you DO have the budget for it, do try to get an authentic BaByliss MiraCurl. If you don’t have the budget for it, the fake ones are okay but use at your own risk.
I’m not sure where you can buy the BaByliss MiraCurl here in the Philippines, though. I saw CashCashPinoy selling some a couple of months back for around P7,000 but I wasn’t so sure if they were authentic.
For sure, the BaByliss MiraCurl is available in Hong Kong and Singapore. So if you know anyone who’s heading there soon, you can ask them to buy for you!
So, what do you think? Isn’t the BaByliss MiraCurl the best beauty gadget ever?!
XOXO,
