Hey, remember No More Heroes? The over-the-top violence, the weird humor, the plot that made you go “What did I just play?”—yeah, that Grasshopper Manufacture is back with a brand-new original game.

It’s called ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN and it already looks like one of those games you either become obsessed with or never stop side-eyeing.
The game was revealed during the latest PlayStation State of Play, and it’s Grasshopper’s first original IP in five years. It’s dropping in 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Windows.
The Premise: Sci-fi FBI agent but make it undead
Romeo Stargazer (yep, that’s his real name) is an FBI agent decked out in a “Dead Gear” mask, assigned to protect the space-time continuum. But when a science experiment goes wrong, the timeline collapses—and Romeo becomes “Dead Man,” a limbo-state agent who’s both alive and dead.
Now he’s traveling through multiple universes hunting cosmic fugitives and searching for his mysteriously missing girlfriend, Juliet. Yes, there are Romeo and Juliet undertones, but this one’s set in a dimension-hopping bloodbath with swords, guns, and chaos.

Gameplay: Peak “bloody action” energy
The devs aren’t being subtle. They straight-up call this one a “bloody action” game, and if the trailer is any clue, expect carnage. Romeo can switch between weapons mid-fight and even turn enemies’ powers against them. Think stylish violence dialed up to eleven, with level designs that look like a mashup of retro gimmicks and modern absurdity.

If you’ve ever wanted a game that feels like it came out of a punk zine scribbled in the margins of a sci-fi script, this might be it.
Suda51 being… very Suda51
Goichi Suda, aka Suda51, is once again at the helm as director, writer, and producer. His statement reads more like a late-night ramble than a PR quote, which, honestly, makes it all the more charming. He jokes about what to nickname the game (“RomeDead”? “IsA”??), references the classic anime Beautiful Dreamer, and waxes nostalgic about all-nighters during development back in the day.
He also hints at why there’s no official date yet: they’re staying far, far away from releasing near “That One Game.” You know the one.
So… what’s the vibe?
Weird? Yes. Violent? Very. Stylish? Absolutely. ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN is shaping up to be everything you’d expect from Grasshopper, and maybe more. It feels like a chaotic love letter to sci-fi, old-school action games, and messy timelines. And somehow, there’s a love story buried in all that blood.
No solid release date yet, just 2026 (ish). But whenever it drops, this is one I’ll be keeping my eye on.
