Birthday at Uma Nota: 9/10, would celebrate again

I’m not big on celebrating my birthday. Honestly, I usually feel a little uncomfortable when people make a fuss about it. But this year, I decided to do things differently and actually enjoy it for a change. So I did something special and ended up at Uma Nota Manila.

A peek inside

Uma Nota Manila is tucked under Shangri-La The Fort in BGC. If you haven’t seen this place yet, it’s gorgeous. Warm lights, arches everywhere, a giant hanging tree installation (seriously), and a vibe that’s equal parts sleek lounge and festive party.

Opened in February 2024, Uma Nota Manila is still pretty new to the city’s dining scene but it’s already making waves for its unique Brazilian-Japanese fusion and striking interiors.

Bring on the feast

Originally, we planned to go a la carte, but we found out they offered a Chef’s Menu so we went for that instead. Honestly, it was the best choice. The a la carte menu all sounded so yummy that you’d probably end up with option paralysis anyway. The Chef’s Menu basically means, “bring me everything good.” And they delivered.

The Chef’s Menu is an eight-course tasting experience where the kitchen sends out a curated selection of their best dishes so you just sit back, enjoy, and let the flavors roll in.

My favorite? The Brazuca Ceviche. Fresh fish marinated in a citrusy soy reduction, with ginger, passionfruit, crispy corn, and herbs. Bright, zesty, and just the right amount of kick. I could’ve happily eaten another bowl.

The cocktail that got away

Uma Nota is also known for its playful cocktails. Think coconut, togarashi, Japanese-Brazilian twists. But I was way too stuffed to even try one. Next time, that drink is happening.

Cake, cheers, and birthday magic

What sealed the deal though? The service. Attentive, friendly, and they even brought me a free slice of birthday cake. Little gestures like that just make the night feel extra special.

My two cents

If you’re looking for a spot in BGC that feels a bit fancy and a lot of fun, definitely put Uma Nota on your list. It’s a little pricey, but not ridiculously expensive. Perfect for special occasions or when you just want to treat yourself to something nice for a change. Amazing food, beautiful interiors, and fantastic service.

Rating: 9/10. Just remember to save space for dessert and a cocktail.
