Exit 8 Movie Review: Worth the trip or just another endless loop?

So got to watch Exit 8, yes, the movie based on that viral indie horror game where you’re stuck in a looping underground corridor. If you’ve seen people stream the game, you probably already know how creepy it can get.

Here’s the thing though: while I found the movie entertaining, it didn’t quite hit the same horror high as the game. I was expecting to be a lot more scared.

Instead, it leaned heavily into atmosphere and psychological unease. Not a bad thing! But if you’re hoping for heart-stopping terror, you might walk out thinking, “That’s it?”

That said, Japanese filmmakers really know how to play with space, silence, and tension. The cinematography? Gorgeous, as always. Every frame looks like it’s designed to make you question reality. And the good news, you don’t need to know a single thing about the game to enjoy this film. It works perfectly fine on its own.

Would I say Exit 8 is a must-see in theaters? Not really.

But if you’re curious, it’s definitely worth watching at least once. Personally, I wouldn’t mind just waiting for it to hit streaming services. Still, for fans of psychological thrillers (and anyone who loves stylish Japanese filmmaking), it’s a fun watch.

And if you want to catch it now, Exit 8 is currently showing in SM Cinemas nationwide.

My rating: 6.5/10.

Not quite the horror I was hoping for, but still entertaining enough for a night at the movies or maybe just a cozy streaming session at home.
