Have you been to the mall lately and have you seen those really cute keys with design at a key duplication stall?
I used to buy those all the time when I had keys duplicated but they were a bit pricey at P150 bucks a piece. It may not seem pricey if you’re having only one key duplicated, but imagine if you’re having 4 keys duplicated all at the same time?!
P150 x 4 = P600 for key duplication. Expensive! I’d rather buy clothes with that amount of money.
Fortunately, I saw this very simple DIY on the internet that could save you a few bucks AND make your keys look more colorful, cute and easy to distinguish 🙂
You’ll need the following:
- Nail polish, 2-3 colors depending on how many keys you plan to color code
- Your keys
- Scotch tape or masking tape

Step 1: Secure your keys on a piece of cardboard with the tape.
This is to make sure that the keys don’t move around and the line is straight 🙂

Step 2: Paint the top of your keys with nail polish.
Up to you how many coats. It depends on the quality of the nail polish, too. I don’t suggest painting the whole key as you might have a hard time inserting it on the key hole.

Step 3: Let dry completely before you put them on your key chain.

Step 4: Put your newly color coded keys on your keychain and admire your work! 😉

Viola! Pretty, colorful keys!
Next time I hand over my keys to someone and they ask which key is for the front door, I can just say, “It’s the green one!” 🙂
Hope you liked this simple DIY!
XOXO,
