Among the three headphones sent over to me by Pioneer, the MJ711 is my favorite among the bunch.

SE-MJ711 features:

• With compact ear cups that stay close to your head and a wide headband for a comfortable fit.
• The headphone incorporates large 40 mm drivers that deliver a playback frequency of 10 Hz to 25,000 Hz with an output level of 102 dB to ensure dynamic beat reproduction.
• A gold-plated, 3.5 mm, stereo mini-plug ensures excellent contact and outstanding audio transmission, while the 1.2 m one-sided earphone cord reduces cord tangling.

Comfort: 2/5

The MJ711 fits my head like a glove — a glove that’s a little too snug.

I was unpleasantly surprised to find that the MJ711 could get quite uncomfortable when worn for longer periods of time. My ears started to hurt after an hour of use, or so.

I suppose this was because of the very tight design of the headphone. Considering that my head is pretty tiny compared to the average person, this headphone might not be comfortable to most people.

I’m hoping that prolonged use will loosen up the headband a bit but I highly doubt it as the build of the headphone feels quite solid even if it is made of plastic.

Sound Quality: 4/5

Like the MJ522, the MJ711 delivers a well-balanced sound but undoubtedly shines when you listen to songs with extreme bass. I wouldn’t mind, however, a little more clarity and crispness when it comes to the high range.

Conclusion:

Despite the low score on the comfort, the MJ711 remains to be my favorite because of the design and the sound quality.

I especially enjoyed listening to “The Clubber” by Safri Duo using the MJ711. It’s one of my favorite club music of all times.

I also like that the cord is only placed on the left side as this really helps in reducing tangles.

The MJ711 is definitely worth your money (around P1,800 or $50)  if you are fond of listening to club and dance music, and maybe even hiphop and rap.

If you’re not a fan of the white headphone, the MJ711 is also available in others colors – blue, red and black.
