Check Out G-SHOCK’s Watch Collection At The Shock The World Manila Press Con. They’re Really Awesome!

Last Friday, February 28, I attended the G-SHOCK Press Conference with Kikuo Ibe, the father and inventor of G-SHOCK. It was held at HYVE in BGC.

Immediately the moment I stepped off the elevator onto the 8th floor of W Global Center, I was greeted by the display of G-SHOCK Watch Collections all over the room. Let me tell you, I felt like a little kid in a candy store! I was giddy with glee!

(I love, love, LOVE G-SHOCK watches and that includes their girly counterpart, Baby-G.)

Here’s my favorite collection – the MT-G Metal Twisted G-SHOCK. Gorgeous, looking watches.

Since the MT-G Collection was my favorite among the bunch, let’s take a closer look at them.

According to the internet, each G-SHOCK MT-G watch can cost around $800-$1,000. Wow! I was planning on buying one for the hubby but after the seeing the prices, I might need a few months to save up for one, haha.

I also hope that they come out with an MT-G version for Baby-G. As much as I love G-SHOCK, my arms are too skinny for them!

Limited Edition Shock The World Manila Watch

The Shock the World Manila watch comes in G-SHOCK’s signature look, with a white exterior and red, blue, and yellow accents to reflect the colors of the Philippine flag.

To commemorate the 30^th anniversary of G-SHOCK, there are 30 red stars on the upper portion of the strap. On the opposite side, 3 stars and a sun can be seen to represent Filipinos.

After drooling over the watches, we were ushered into the club for the press conference with Kikuo Ibe.

He conversed with us in Filipino and he was fantastic! 😉
You just had to love him as he was very humble and charismatic.

Meeting Kikuo Ibe-san was amazing. He gave an inspiring talk on the history of G-SHOCK and his motivation for creating the brand.

When he was a young boy, his father gave him a watch. It was very precious gift. Unfortunately, the watch fell and broke. It was then that he vowed to create an indestructible watch that won’t break if it falls.

And that story started G-SHOCK, the toughest watch on the planet.

Here are some of the cool trivias and fun facts we learned at the press con.

G-Shock-Manila_37 — In the course of Kikuo-san Ibe-san’s journey, he made this design for his watch. He then realized, it wasn’t a feasible design, hehe.

Kikuo Ibe-san found this inspiration while observing a little girl play with a bouncing ball. He imagined the engine floating inside the ball.

G-Shock-Manila_35 — The first G-SHOCK model DW5000C was launched in 1983, following the “Triple 10” concept –10-year battery life, 10-bar water resistance, and 10-meter dropping shock resistance.

I had a really great time at the G-SHOCK Press Con. It’s super fun to learn more about your favorite brands and how they came to be.

I’m really obsessed with G-SHOCK and Baby-G watches and if I had more money, I would be buying more and more to add to my collection!

(I’m trying so hard to stop myself from purchasing a new watch from Amazon right now… must… not… click…)

I’m just sad that I wasn’t able to get a photo with Kikuo Ibe-san and get his autograph, too. Arggh.

But at least, I got a watch, yay!

Thanks to Mr. Kikuo Ibe he gave us these incredible watches. I am a G-shock lover for over 4 years now. Thanks to Ms. Lia for making this post possible. I appreciate it and I hope that many people will help this post.
